The viral gstack skill toolkit is spreading fast, but it installs third-party skills that act with your agent's access: why it is not safe to use

A viral gstack-based skill pack can quickly add many agent helpers, but third-party skills can act with your agent's access.

What happened

A widely shared Reddit post on July 26, 2026 highlighted a new project called `gstack-meeting`, built on top of Garry Tan's gstack skills. The post described 19 specialist bots and a 60-second install as a Claude Code skill.

A separate source describes gstack as an open-source toolkit of 31 `SKILL.md`-based skills that work across Claude Code and Codex CLI. In plain terms, a skill is an add-on that gives your AI agent extra instructions and behavior.

What it means for you

If you install a third-party skill pack, those skills run inside your agent workflow under your account's access. That means they can influence what the agent reads, runs, and writes.

For a normal user, the safest way to think about this is like a browser extension. A lot of people sharing it is not the same as a safety review. A popular toolkit may still increase privacy exposure, meaning more chances for your data to be seen or handled in ways you did not expect. It can also increase the blast radius of mistakes, meaning a bad instruction or wrong action can affect more of your files, tools, or connected services.

What to do instead

  • Pause before one-click installs from social posts.
  • Read what the skill says it will do and what tools it can use.
  • Try new skills in a test project, not your main work.
  • Avoid giving broad access unless you truly need it.
  • Remove skills you do not actively use.
  • If you want a safer starting point, AgentPod lists only reviewed, tested skills.
